Selling conditions

1. Nature of the contract

Through this web portal, the customer (understood to be any individual or legal entity) may purchase the products offered by LAIETANA DE LLIBRETERIA, S.L. (hereinafter For products that does not have in stock, shall simply pass on the customer's order to the distributor. 'Contract' means the sale and purchase transaction that is implemented through this document.

2. Register as a customer

On you must be registered as a customer to:

-    buy

-    check the status of pending orders

-    check or modify your personal data

You can register as a customer by filling in the registration form (accessed from the "user area / register" section in the main menu), or whenever you are asked for your login ID (login page). Please note that the details you enter during registration will be used as the default ‘billing details’ when you place an order. Immediately after completing the form and sending the information, you will receive a welcome email with your registration details and you will be able to use all restricted access services.

Your email address and password identify you as a customer. If you have forgotten your password, select the corresponding option and we will send it to your email.

You can modify your personal data (change of address, email, etc.) or change your password through the "user area / register" section in the main menu. If you place an order, we will use the most recent data that you have given us.

3. How to buy

The purchase can only be completed in Catalan, Spanish or English. To make a purchase you must be registered as a customer (see previous point). After clicking ‘buy’ from the shopping cart page, you will be directed to a form with all the delivery and payment information. Once the purchase is confirmed, your registration details will be used to confirm the purchase. This will generate an electronic document that will be archived by Laie. You will not be able to access this document. You must correct any mistakes you made when registering your details before confirming the purchase. If you find an error immediately after confirming your purchase, you should contact Laie immediately to report this fact.

Products that appear in our database correspond to items that have been registered at some point in one of our bookstores, and the information displayed is based on said registration.

Therefore, for any products which are not ‘immediately available’ (item ‘not available’; item ‘sold out’), the information on availability and price will be provided by the distributor. shall simply pass on the customer's request to the distributor. Once the availability and price of the product has been confirmed by the distributor, the client will be informed via email whether they can start the purchase procedure through this website.

The prices shown on our website are inclusive of VAT (Value Added Tax).

The price of the books is subject to changes by the publisher and, in the case of imported books, to fluctuations in the currency of origin.

For orders placed from countries outside the European Community, Value Added Tax (VAT) must be deducted from the total amount of the order: 4% for books and 21% for other objects and audiovisual materials.

4. Acknowledgement of receipt

Once the purchase has been confirmed, you will receive an acknowledgment of receipt within 24 hours after confirmation, detailing the purchase information.

5. Billing and delivery details

By default, the billing and delivery details are the same as on the customer registration form. You only need to enter separate delivery details if they are different to the billing details.

6. Collection

It is possible to collect the order, within the established time, provided that confirmation has been received that it is available at the store.

7. Deliveries

In the case of deliveries, the shipping costs will be added to the total price of the order. If you have ordered several products, we will try to group them in a single shipment whenever possible, provided this does not delay the delivery too much.

8. Payment

If you select the ‘collect’ option, payment will be made at the collection point, at the time of collection.

In the case of deliveries, buyers may choose to pay for the product in one of the following ways:

-    Cash on delivery (only valid in Spain)

-    Credit card: Visa (Visa Electron not accepted) or MasterCard will send the corresponding invoice to the customer with the order. Credit cards will be charged when the product is shipped.

9. Safety and confidenciality

All personal data is sent through SSL (Secure Socket Layer), a system that guarantees the confidentiality of the data. Only information that is strictly necessary is requested. will not use this information for any purpose other than what has been agreed, nor will it pass on or sell the information to third parties. The data is stored in the database. The customer can access and modify the information at any time, from the website. Customers can also request that their information is deleted.

10. How to check the status of an order

To check the status of your pending orders, click on ‘my account’ in the upper right-hand corner of the main menu. After logging in (user area / register), you will be able to access your orders page, where you will find the pending products sorted by date and the status of the order.

Order status table:

-    in process: we have received your order form and we will be in contact soon.

-    available: we have received your order. If you checked the 'collect at Laie Bookstore and Café' option, you can now collect it. If you chose to collect at another store, please wait for the order to appear as 'received'.

-    delayed: we cannot deliver the order within the expected time period, but we will let you know when the product is available.

-    available soon: you have ordered a product that is not yet for sale. We will notify you as soon as we receive it.

-    cancelled: we're sorry, but we will not be able to fulfil your order.

-    received: we have sent your order to the store where you will be able to pick it up 

-    sent: we have sent your order to the address you provided.

11. Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without having to provide a reason. The withdrawal period expires after 14 calendar days from the date on which you or a third party (other than the carrier) receive the goods. To make sure you are complying with the withdrawal period, you simply have make known your intention to exercise your right to withdrawal before the end of said period. 

To exercise the right of withdrawal, you must notify us of your decision to withdraw from the contract by means of an unequivocal statement (for example, a letter sent by post, fax or email) to the following address:

12. Consequences of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse all payments received from you, including initial shipping costs (except any additional costs if you chose any delivery option apart from the cheapest one), without undue delay, no later than 14 days from the day on which we were informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract. We will reimburse you using the same payment method you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly instructed otherwise. In any case, you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement. We may retain the refund until we have received the goods, or until you have submitted proof that the goods have been returned, depending on which condition is met first.

Without undue delay, and no later than 14 calendar days from the date you inform us of your decision to withdraw from the contract. The terms of this agreement shall be met if the user returns the goods before said period has expired.

However, we inform you that under the provisions of art. 107.3 of Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, we will proceed to withhold the amount of the refund until we have received the goods or the buyer send us sufficient proof of their return.


We also inform you that, as established in article 108.1 of Royal  Legislative Decree 1/2007, when the withdrawal is exercised, the buyer will only bear the direct expenses of the return of the product. You shall be liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from handling of the goods beyond what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and function of the product.

You must provide us with your full name, ID, email and telephone number, as well as the reason for the complaint or claim. After receiving your complaint or suggestion, our customer service department will proceed to send you a confirmation email with an incident number within 48 hours. Our staff will contact you via the email address or telephone number you have given to us in order to resolve the problem.

15. Applicable jurisdiction

In the event that any conflict or dispute should arise in the interpretation or application of these contractual conditions, the Courts and Tribunals that shall rule on the matter, if applicable, shall be those appointed by applicable legal regulations on competent jurisdiction, which address, in the case of final consumers, the place of fulfilment of the obligation or the domicile of the purchasing party.

In any case, the customer will have every right to make an appeal before the Consumer Arbitration Board.

In the case of a purchase or sale made by a company that does not have consumer status under Royal Decree 1/2007, both parties shall be subject to the Courts and Tribunals of BARCELONA (Spain), expressly waiving any other jurisdiction.
